Mohammed Idris receives Business Day Public Service Award

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris has been honoured with the Business Day 2025 Excellence in Public Service Award, recognising his strong performance in public service.

Receiving the award in Abuja yesterday, Idris credited the ministry and its agencies for the recognition, emphasising their commitment to transforming government communication.

The minister stated that over the last two years, his focus has been on redefining Nigeria’s national communication architecture to promote transparency, professionalism, and citizen-centred governance.

To enhance the integrity of the nation’s information ecosystem, Idris highlighted advanced reforms that promote media responsibility, ethical standards, and public accountability.

A key achievement cited by the minister is the establishment of the UNESCO Category 2 Media and Information Literacy Institute in Abuja, which he noted is the first of its kind in the world.

This institute, the minister said, underscores Nigeria’s growing leadership in fostering an informed, ethical, and resilient information environment.Idris pledged that the ministry will continue to strengthen public communication channels and deepen the necessary reforms for a healthier, more transparent information space.

The minister also urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and focused on the administration’s goals, calling on them not to be distracted.

He highlighted notable milestones of the Tinubu administration, including: Nigeria’s exit from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, the oversubscription of Nigeria’s Eurobond by over 400%, the growing Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the falling inflation rate.

Idris implored his colleagues and members of the media to join hands with the administration to achieve the promised direction of prosperity, unity, cohesion, and irreversible development.

The event, which was attended by heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), also honoured other recipients, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu; and the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan was also represented at the ceremony by Former Senate President, Pius Anyim.
