My ex-label boss forged my signature, stole my money – Qing Madi alleges

Afrobeats singer Chimamanda “Qing Madi” Chukwuma has accused her former record label boss, Joy Tongo, of forging her signature and taking money that belonged to her.

The singer made the claims during a recent TikTok live session while speaking about the removal of some songs from her new album, Barely Legal, from streaming platforms.

According to her, the takedowns were part of ongoing efforts by her former label to frustrate her career.

Qing Madi said the dispute between both sides has continued despite a court battle involving a $2 million lawsuit filed against her by the label.

She maintained that the legal action did not succeed and alleged that her former management has continued making moves against her music career.

The singer further claimed that one of her songs, Pepper Me, was removed from streaming services but was later restored after her team challenged the action.

She alleged that more attempts were later made to remove songs from her project, insisting that those actions were aimed at affecting the success of her work.

Qing Madi appealed to her supporters to speak out over the situation, saying the prolonged conflict with her former label has become exhausting.

“She [Joy Tongo] stole from me, did a bunch of weird things like forging my signature. She sued me for $2M & she lost the case. She took down ‘Pepper Me’, I worked with my team to prove it’s an illegal takedown. They went through the corners again to take down the project,” the singer lamented.

In response, Tongo dismissed the allegations and described them as untrue.

She denied claims that she forged the singer’s signature or took any money from her.

Tongo also disputed Qing Madi’s account of the legal dispute, stating that the case is still ongoing and has not yet reached trial.

According to her, an existing court injunction remains in place and gives the record label the legal right to seek the removal of songs or projects connected to the matter.

“Also, the injunction is ruling is why we can issue a legal takedown now, what case have you won? Because last time I checked the case still hasn’t gone to trial,” Tongo added in a post on her Instagram page.
