Nigerian singer, Niniola, has opened up on how the painful memory of witnessing her father’s assassination continues to haunt her decades after the incident.
Her father, Brigadier-General Simeon Apata (rtd.), was killed by gunmen on January 8, 1995, in Lagos while his family was present.
The shocking attack left lasting scars on his children, who were very young at the time.
In a recent interview, Niniola recalled being in the house when the tragic event happened.
She explained that losing him in such a violent way has been difficult to deal with, especially as she was known to be very close to him.
The singer admitted that despite the years that have passed, the trauma has not left her and the memory remains heavy.
She said she was only a child when it happened, making it an experience she would never forget.
Her younger sister, Teni, had also shared in 2023 that witnessing their father’s assassination as a toddler left her deeply shaken.
