The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reported that 69,376 Nigerians completed online voter pre-registration within the first seven hours of reopening the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, confirmed the figures in a statement issued in Abuja.
He noted that the portal went live at 8:30 a.m., and by 3:30 p.m., registrations had surpassed 69,000 nationwide.
According to INEC’s breakdown, male registrants accounted for 33,803 or 48.7 percent, while female registrants stood at 35,573 or 51.3 percent. Young persons aged 18 to 34 represented 69.2 percent of the total, amounting to 48,033 individuals.
Olumekun stated that the online portal, available at cvr.inecnigeria.org, operates 24 hours daily throughout the exercise.
He stressed that both online and physical registration would run concurrently during the CVR period.

Physical registration is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 25, 2025, at INEC’s 811 state and local government offices nationwide.
The process will run on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to accommodate applicants who prefer in-person registration or need to complete biometric capture.
Weekly progress reports will be released beginning next week, providing a detailed breakdown of registrants by state, gender, age group, occupation, and disability status.
INEC said this transparency is intended to build trust and ensure public awareness.
Eligibility is restricted to Nigerian citizens aged 18 years and above who are not already registered voters.
Olumekun emphasized that double registration is unlawful, though transfers and card replacements are permitted during the exercise.
Applicants starting online must create an account with a valid email and phone number, complete personal details, and upload a passport photograph.
They must then book an appointment to complete biometric capture at the nearest registration centre, after which a Temporary Voter Card will be issued.
INEC reiterated that existing Permanent Voter Cards remain valid and do not require renewal. Citizens with lost or damaged cards may request replacements using the same online platform.
