The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has issued a public advisory warning Nigerians about multiple vulnerabilities recently discovered in Google Chrome.
In a notice shared on its official X handle, the Commission explained that the flaws could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code on users’ systems.
It cautioned that exploitation may lead to unauthorised access, data loss, or even the creation of new administrator accounts by malicious actors.
According to the NDPC, attackers who exploit these vulnerabilities could install harmful programs, view or delete data, and alter critical system functions without the user’s knowledge or consent.

The Commission urged immediate action, advising Chrome users to update their browsers to the latest version, avoid operating with administrative rights unless necessary, and exercise caution when clicking suspicious links or opening unsolicited attachments.
NDPC noted that this warning aligns with its broader mandate to safeguard Nigerians’ data.
Last year, National Commissioner Dr Vincent Olatunji disclosed that the Commission was investigating 17 major data breach cases across finance, technology, education, government, and logistics.
Verified breaches have already generated over ₦400 million in remedial revenue for the government.
Nigeria’s data protection framework continues to expand, with over 2,000 annual audit filings and membership in global networks such as the Global Privacy Assembly and the Network of African Data Protection Authorities.
The Commission emphasized that public vigilance remains central to protecting sensitive personal information and maintaining trust in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
