Nigeria clinches 101 medals to top 2025 African Arm Wrestling Championship in Abuja

Nigeria has emerged as the overall champion of the 2025 African Arm Wrestling Championship, claiming the most medals with 28 Gold, 35 Silver, and 38 Bronze, amounting to 101 medals.

The tournament, hosted at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, included participants from more than 20 African nations.

Benin Republic secured the second position by winning no fewer than 23 Gold medals, whereas Ghana came in third, obtaining 21 Gold, 20 Silver, and 9 Bronze medals, accumulating a total of 50 medals.

The competition, held in July, was among the most fierce in recent times.

Nigeria’s strong performance was largely credited to the benefits of playing at home, enhanced training initiatives, and greater funding in power sports.

The competition showcased male and female competitors in various weight divisions and held under the authority of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA).
