Nigeria lines up Poland, Portugal friendlies for June

Nigeria confirms Poland friendly in Warsaw on 3 June
Super Eagles to meet Portugal before 2026 World Cup

The Super Eagles will face Poland and Portugal in two high‑profile international friendlies in June. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed these matches.

Eric Chelle’s side will first travel to Warsaw to take on Poland at the PGE Narodowy Stadium on 3 June. The match will be the second meeting between the two nations. Previously, Nigeria won the only encounter 1‑0 in 2018.

Seven days later, Nigeria will meet Portugal on 10 June at a venue to be announced. The game will be Portugal’s final warm‑up before the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Furthermore, The Seleção das Quinas are expected to bring their full squad. Cristiano Ronaldo will likely feature, as he continues his preparation for a sixth World Cup appearance.

The June fixtures will follow the Super Eagles’ participation in the Unity Cup Tournament in London. Nigeria will defend its title from 26 to 30 May. Previously, Nigeria won the second edition of the invitational tournament in 2025 by beating Jamaica on penalties in the final. This year’s edition will see the Super Eagles face India and Jamaica in a mini‑tournament. It is designed to help the team build momentum before the summer friendlies.

For Chelle, the matches will provide valuable opportunities to test his squad against varied styles of play. This will help as the team continues its rebuild after failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
