Nigeria has formally submitted its bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, presenting its case at the Games headquarters in London, United Kingdom.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier declared Nigeria’s intention on his official X handle, stressing the significance of staging the centenary edition of the Games in Africa for the first time.
He emphasized that bringing the Games to Nigeria would be a landmark moment, underscoring Africa’s central role in the Commonwealth’s future.

“To the Commonwealth Family, it is time for Africa. After 100 years of the Commonwealth Games, they have never been hosted on African soil. By bringing the Commonwealth Centenary Games to Nigeria in 2030, you will send a powerful message that every region of the Commonwealth matters,” Tinubu wrote.
The president added that hosting the Games in Nigeria would symbolize unity and inspire the next generation across the continent.
Nigeria’s bid represents Africa’s strongest push yet to secure hosting rights for the Commonwealth Games, a global sporting event that has never been held on the continent since its inception in 1930.
