Nigerian woman shares struggles of homelessness in Canada, urges people to “hold onto hope” (VIDEO)

A video shared on the Instagram page @reedinthestreet highlights the inspiring yet somber story of a Nigerian woman, Simi, who opens up about her challenges with homelessness in Canada.

“Hold onto hope because it’s dangerous to lose hope,” Simi says in the clip, showing the importance of resilience despite hardships.

In the interview, Simi revealed she arrived in Canada as an international student, studying in Hamilton and living in a boarding school. “I applied to Canada by myself, which is really difficult, yes, I came to Canada by myself,” she explained.

However, Simi’s circumstances took a turn for the worse. She described how a failed business investment, the rising cost of housing, and struggles with her mental health contributed to her current situation.

“I invested in a business idea that failed. I had a fashion business. Also, the changes in housing prices and my mental health—I struggle with anxiety, so working 9-5 is quite difficult,” she admitted.

When asked if she is currently homeless, Simi confirmed, “Yeah, I’m working on it,” adding that she is trying to find balance and figure out her next steps.
