Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has expressed firm interest in joining the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), but only under conditions that guarantee transparency.
The 37-year-old insists Nigerian football requires deep structural changes, especially after the painful failure to reach the FIFA World Cup. He stressed that administrative problems, not merely on-field shortcomings, continue to hinder the nation’s football progress.
Mikel, respected for his unwavering loyalty to Nigeria, made it clear he remains willing to serve the country once again. However, he emphasised that he would never associate himself with a system tainted by corruption.
His call for accountability echoes long-standing concerns shared by fans, former players and football stakeholders. He reminded Nigerians of his years of sacrifice across every national team level.
Mikel stated that he never turned down a national assignment throughout his career, regardless of circumstance. For him, leadership must begin with integrity and a shared vision for genuine development. Nevertheless, he reiterated that meaningful reform depends on the quality of people in charge.

According to him, players can only perform when administrators provide an environment built on trust, planning and professionalism. His message was both a warning and an invitation to those who desire a better football culture.
