Politics: Guinea-Bissau Coup: Jonathan returns to Nigeria
NRTC WEEKLY learnt that Former President Goodluck Jonathan has returned to Abuja after being trapped in Guinea-Bissau following Tuesday’s military coup.
Jonathan arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday afternoon, marking the end of a tense 48-hour period during which he was stuck after soldiers halted the nation’s electoral process and sealed its borders.
NRTC reported that the former president was trapped in Guinea-Bissau while serving on a joint observer mission organized by the African Union (AU), ECOWAS, and the West African Elders Forum.

Economy: CBN orders withdrawal of non-compliant bank advertisements nationwide
NRTC WEEKLY gathered that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed banks, payment service banks, and all other regulated financial institutions to immediately withdraw any advertisement or promotional material that violates consumer-protection and fair-marketing rules.
The directive was issued in a circular dated November 27, 2025, and signed by Olubunmi Ayodele-Oni on behalf of the Director of the CBN Compliance Department.
According to the circular, a recent thematic industry review uncovered widespread inconsistencies in how institutions apply disclosure, transparency and fair-marketing standards under the Consumer Protection Regulations 2019 and the Guidelines on Advertisements by Deposit-Taking Financial Institutions issued in 2000.
The CBN said many institutions continue to run adverts that exaggerate product benefits, omit essential information, obscure risks or rely on unaudited financial data, practices that mislead consumers and distort market competition.
Leading Stories: Tinubu declares national security emergency, approves 20,000 additional police recruits
NRTC WEEKLY reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday announced a nationwide security emergency and directed Nigeria’s security agencies to embark on large-scale recruitment to address the escalating insecurity across the country.
According to a statement released by the State House, the president ordered the Nigerian Police Force to enlist 20,000 new officers, raising the total number of planned recruits to 50,000.
He also gave approval for National Youth Service Corps camps to serve as temporary training centres to fast-track the process.
The statement read, “Today, in view of the emerging security situation, I have decided to declare a nationwide security emergency and order additional recruitment into the Armed Forces.
Sports: “No Corruption”: Mikel Obi declares interest in NFF job with strict transparency terms
NRTC WEEKLY learnt that Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has expressed firm interest in joining the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), but only under conditions that guarantee transparency.
The 37-year-old insists Nigerian football requires deep structural changes, especially after the painful failure to reach the FIFA World Cup. He stressed that administrative problems, not merely on-field shortcomings, continue to hinder the nation’s football progress.
Mikel, respected for his unwavering loyalty to Nigeria, made it clear he remains willing to serve the country once again. However, he emphasised that he would never associate himself with a system tainted by corruption.
His call for accountability echoes long-standing concerns shared by fans, former players and football stakeholders. He reminded Nigerians of his years of sacrifice across every national team level.
Entertainment: Mavin Records: Don Jazzy welcomes new artiste ‘LOVN’
NRTC WEEKLY gathered that Mavin Records boss, Michael Collins Ajereh popularly known as Don Jazzy, has announced the signing of a new artiste, LOVN, to the label’s growing roster of Afrobeats talents.
The announcement was made through Don Jazzy’s official social media account, where he shared details about the artiste’s journey, consistency, and readiness for the industry.
Don Jazzy is well known for identifying raw talents early and turning them into stars. Over the years, Mavin Records has signed and developed artistes such as Ayra Starr and Rema , both of whom have achieved international success.
The label’s roster today also includes established and rising acts like Ladipoe, Johnny Drille, Crayon, Magixx, Boy Spyce, Bayanni, Lifesize Teddy and DJ Big N.
He noted that LOVN represents the kind of emerging artist the label intends to groom through the Mavin Academy, which he described as “filled with many future Afrobeats superstars.”
