    Politics: INEC confirms over 2.8m registered voters for Anambra governorship election

    NRTC Weekly learnt that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that a total of 2,802,790 voters are on the register for the Anambra State governorship election slated for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

    This was disclosed on Thursday in a statement by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.

    Olumekun explained that the commission carried out a voter registration exercise across Anambra’s 326 wards between July 8 and 20, 2025, during which 168,187 residents applied to be added as new voters.

    Leading Stories: FG unveils revised curricula for primary, secondary, and technical schools

    NRTC Weekly gathered that the Federal Government announced the completion of a comprehensive review of curricula for basic, senior secondary, and technical education, aimed at preparing Nigerian learners for the future.

    This was disclosed in Abuja by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, who spoke on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa.

    The announcement was contained in a statement released on Friday by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, and made public on Sunday.

    According to Ahmad, the curriculum review was jointly carried out with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, the Universal Basic Education Commission, the National Senior Secondary Education Commission, and the National Board for Technical Education.

    The minister explained that the new framework was designed to reduce overload, enhance learning quality, and ensure students acquire skills that meet global standards.

    NRTC Weekly reported that the Federal Government has welcomed a sharp rise in remittances from Nigerians abroad, which climbed to $600 million monthly in the last two months, according to figures released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

    Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), described the increase as evidence of growing trust in Nigeria’s economy and the impact of recent monetary policy adjustments.

    In a statement issued by NiDCOM’s spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa referred to the inflow as “humongous,” noting that it represented a 200 percent rise from the previous $200 million monthly average.

    Entertainment: Nollywood mourns as veteran actress Peju Ogunmola loses only son

    NRTC Weekly learnt that the Nollywood industry is mourning the loss of Ayomikun Oluwanisola, the only son of veteran actress Peju Ogunmola.

    News of his death broke on Tuesday, leaving colleagues, fans, and well-wishers deeply saddened.

    His passing comes just few weeks to his birthday slated for October 12.

    Ayomikun’s death has drawn reactions from actors and industry figures who have expressed their sorrow and offered support to Ogunmola and her family.

    Sports: Asisat Oshoala joins Saudi giants Al-Hilal

    NRTC Weekly reported that Nigeria’s most decorated female footballer, Asisat Oshoala, has embarked on a new chapter by signing with Al-Hilal in the Saudi Women’s Premier League.

    The move comes after a single but impactful season at Bay FC in the United States, where the 30-year-old forward became a trailblazer for the expansion team.

    Although financial terms were not disclosed, Oshoala penned a two-year deal with the Riyadh-based club, officially ending her stint in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).     Health: Ondo, FG to distribute 3.6m mosquito nets to curb malaria

    NRTC Weekly gathered that the Ondo State Government, in partnership with the Federal Government, has announced plans to share 3.6 million Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) across the state as part of ongoing efforts to reduce malaria infections.

    The initiative is being carried out with the support of the National Malaria Elimination Programme and the Malaria Consortium.

    Speaking at a media orientation in Akure on Thursday, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, stressed the importance of the campaign and called on media organisations to step up their advocacy against malaria.
