Politics: Bayelsa gov Diri resigns from PDP alongside speaker, lawmakers

NRTC WEEKLY learnt that the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

According to Alabrah, the governor’s resignation was followed by that of the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, and all PDP members in the state legislature.

Diri’s decision to leave the PDP puts an end to months of speculation regarding his alleged defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, Alabrah did not reveal the political party the governor intends to join next.

NRTC WEEKLY learnt that the Federal Government has approved a major reform of admission entry requirements across tertiary institutions in Nigeria, introducing a more flexible and inclusive system designed to expand access to higher education.

According to a statement by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, the reform follows the approval of the National Guidelines for Entry Requirements into Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.

The statement noted that the policy, led by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, aims to democratize access to tertiary education and empower Nigerian youths in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

During the high-level discussions, which focused on key global themes including domestic resource mobilisation, inflation, and macroeconomic policy, Cardoso announced a significant improvement in the nation’s balance of trade.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have reignited their World Cup ambitions with a decisive win that confirmed their place among the four best second-placed teams in Africa’s qualifying stage.

Despite missing automatic qualification, their 17 points and +7 goal difference were enough to edge Benin and claim a playoff place.

South Africa topped Group C with 18 points after defeating Rwanda 3-0, qualifying directly for the 2026 tournament. Benin’s loss dropped them to third, ending their campaign.

Entertainment: Phyna involved in Abuja hotel fight over N200k

NRTC WEEKLY reported that reality TV star Phyna, was involved in a tense confrontation at a hotel in Abuja over an alleged N200,000 financial disagreement.

The clash reportedly started in her hotel room on Tuesday morning and later spilled into the lobby, drawing the attention of other guests and hotel staff.

Eyewitnesses said the disagreement escalated into shouting and pushing when neither party was willing to settle the matter.
