The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has expressed its deep sorrow following the passing of its 7th Director-General, Brigadier General Soyemi Sofoluwe (Rtd.).
He died on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the age of 80.
The incumbent Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, led a delegation on a condolence visit to the deceased’s family residence in Lagos to pay tribute to the man affectionately known as “Oga Show” by staff and corps members alike.

Sofoluwe, who served as the NYSC Chief Executive from 1994 to 1996, was remembered for his remarkable contributions to the growth of the scheme.
During his tenure, he was credited with reinforcing the core mandate of community-driven development and national service.Nafiu described the late DG as a “remarkable” leader whose death is a significant loss not only to his family but also to the NYSC and the entire nation.
“He was a man of strong character with a commitment to military discipline, customs, and traditions,” Nafiu noted, while also highlighting the late General’s amiable, compassionate, and witty personality that endeared him to generations of corps members.
During the visit, Nafiu offered prayers for the family and assured the widow, Colonel Kehinde Sofoluwe (Rtd.) of the NYSC’s full support during the upcoming funeral rites.

The late Sofoluwe’s career extended well beyond the NYSC, having served as Commandant of the Nigerian Military School, Zaria, Head of Department at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna and Education Officer at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi.
He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
