The Oyo State Government has announced a plan to disburse N60 million monthly towards settling the backlog of pension arrears owed to retirees across the state.
This was announced by the state chairman of the Pension Board, Tunji Adekunle, in a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, in Ibadan on Thursday.
According to Adekunle, “A sum of N60 million is being paid to the state pensioners monthly in a bid to clear their outstanding arrears.”
“Also, since the beginning of this year alone, the board has enrolled 142 pensioners in January, 175 in February, 171 in March, and 143 in April,” Adekunle added.
Adekunle also highlighted that the current administration, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, has maintained a consistent track record of disbursing pensions on or before the 25th of every month since taking office.

He emphasized the government’s commitment not only to retirees but also to the timely payment of salaries for active workers.
Supporting the chairman’s remarks, the board’s Permanent Secretary, Hammed Bello, praised Governor Makinde’s dedication to the welfare of retirees and the consistent effort to ensure transparency in pension administration.
“The timely and consistent payment of pensions has brought relief to many pensioners and strengthened their trust in the State Government,” Bello said.
The state government’s approach reflects a broader effort to improve the welfare of its retired workforce and restore public confidence in its pension system.
