The Oyo State Government has postponed the upcoming Adire Carnival and Exhibition, originally slated for Friday, June 20, 2025.
This information was shared in a statement from the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatunbosun, and released by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, in Ibadan on Wednesday.
According to Olatunbosun, the postponement aims to allow the organizers more time to deliver an event that aligns with international standards and provides a high-quality experience for both residents and guests.
He said, “As outlined in the Omituntun 2.0 Roadmap for Sustainable Development, the State Government recognises tourism as a vital driver of economic growth, job creation, and internally generated revenue.”
Olatunbosun also indicated that a new date for the event would be announced soon and assured that stakeholders and the public would be promptly informed.
He reiterated the state government’s dedication under Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership to enhancing cultural and tourism development throughout Oyo.

Highlighting previous cultural achievements, Olatunbosun noted the state’s success in hosting notable events such as the World Twins Festival, World Egungun Festival, World Tourism Day, Iyake International Festival, the Oyo State International Tourism Summit, and the Aso-Ofi Festival.
He added, “The Aso-Ofi Festival, in particular, has achieved remarkable success, prompting a government-backed policy encouraging civil and public servants to incorporate Aso-Ofi into their dress code. This policy has revitalised indigenous textile production and further cemented the state’s reputation as the Manchester of Indigenous Textile Production.”
The Adire Carnival and Exhibition, organized in collaboration with BIZRAIT and Adire Odua, was designed to highlight and celebrate traditional textile artistry. However, in light of the state’s commitment to excellence, the event will now be held at a later date.
Olatunbosun concluded by thanking all collaborators, participants, and the public for their continued support and patience, promising a more impactful celebration ahead.
