The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu into its National Working Committee and postponed its planned National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting originally scheduled for June 30.

This decision follows a strategic meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

At a press briefing held at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, described the move as a tough but necessary compromise that gained broad support from major stakeholders.

Damagum, who was joined by prominent party figures including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, confirmed the resolution to bring Anyanwu back into the leadership fold.

“Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been reinstated in the NWC. It was a difficult decision, and it was accepted by many members of the party led by the organs of the party,” Damagum stated.

He added that instead of the originally planned NEC meeting, the party will now hold an expanded caucus session on June 30 to chart the next steps.

“We will have an expanded Caucus. At the next Caucus, we will take a decision leading to a proper NEC,” he explained.

According to Damagum, INEC pointed out that the party had not given official notice of the NEC meeting, prompting the change of plans. He noted that Anyanwu will resume duties as National Secretary—a key reason the decision was particularly significant.

“Anyanwu is resuming as the National Secretary, that is why I said it was a critical decision. Like INEC said, they don’t have our notice, so what we will have on June 30th is an expanded Caucus,” he said.

More updates are expected as the situation unfolds.
