The Ogun State Police Command has launched an internal investigation after a viral video surfaced online showing controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, allegedly being beaten while in police custody.
The video, which spread widely on social media platforms, especially X, shows the musician handcuffed and reportedly assaulted by some police officers inside a detention facility in Ogun State.
The footage triggered public anger and renewed discussions about police behaviour and the treatment of suspects.
Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that Portable is currently in police custody.

He made it clear that while the singer was arrested, the alleged physical attack shown in the video is not acceptable and does not reflect the standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
He explained that the police do not allow suspects to be beaten, filmed, or exposed to the public, noting that such actions put suspects at risk and can affect investigations.
According to him, every suspect deserves humane treatment, regardless of their status or identity.
DSP Babaseyi also disclosed that the Command has already begun investigating the officers seen in the video.
He assured the public that any personnel found to have acted wrongly would face disciplinary action in line with the law.
The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to professional conduct and stated that the investigation is ongoing, with appropriate steps already taken to address the incident.
