The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has secured the conviction of David Udensik, who also used the alias Jacob Bello, for his involvement in a sophisticated transnational oil-related fraud scheme valued at over $1 million.

The conviction stems from a petition filed by a United States-based energy company.

The firm alleged that Udensik fraudulently obtained funds from them under the guise of facilitating legitimate crude oil transactions within Nigeria.

Operatives from the NPF’s National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) initiated an investigation, revealing that Udensik operated a coordinated criminal network between 2018 and 2023.

This network deceived the victim company by using forged documents purportedly issued by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other official regulatory platforms.

Forensic analysis confirmed that the documents, including seals and authentication materials presented by the suspect, were entirely counterfeit.

The investigation further traced the diverted funds to accounts linked to Udensik and his accomplices.

The Federal High Court, Abuja, subsequently convicted Udensik on October 22, 2025, on charges related to Forgery, obtaining by False Pretence, and Money Laundering.

In addition to the conviction, the Court mandated the forfeiture of assets, including real estate and other properties, valued at several hundred million Naira.

These forfeited assets will be used to facilitate restitution to the victim company.

In response to the successful conclusion of the case, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun issued a commendation to the officers responsible for the dedicated investigative and prosecutorial efforts.

The IGP reaffirmed the police’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s corporate integrity and ensuring that cyber-enabled financial criminals are brought to justice, regardless of their status or location.
