The 2025 AMVCA nominees’ list is here and it is quite an interesting one. The “AMVCA” short for African Magic Viewers Choice Awards is one of the largest if not the largest television award shows in Africa that celebrates film and movie production. Think of it as the African Oscars award.
The inaugural AMVCA ceremony took place in Lagos, Nigeria, on March 9, 2013, and has been a prestigious annual award ever since. The AMVCA has been a major leverage for actors, actresses, scriptwriters, content creators, producers, directors, and others to get appropriate recognition for their various roles all over Africa.
While the 2025 AMVCA nominees have been announced, here are a few actors and actresses nominated this year with no previous AMVCA win.

Uche Montana
Uche Nwaefuna, professionally known as Uche Montana, is a 27-year-old Nigerian actress. She’s best known for her role in the hit show Hush. Though officially kicking off her acting career in 2015, Uche Montana remains pretty fresh in the industry. She’s being nominated in this year’s AMVCA for Best Leading Actress for her role in the hit Drama Thinline. It’d be her first AMVCA award if she wins.
Adedayo Adebowale
The popular Nigerian skitmaker and content creator Adebowale known professionally as Mr Macaroni has evolved beyond the walls of social media and pivoted into movie acting. He was in the case of the famous Nigerian hit movie of 2021 “Ayinla” also featuring in “Anikulapo” in 2022, “Freedom Way” in 2024 and his 2024 lead role hit “Lisabi: The Uprising”. Adebowale has established himself in the Nollywood industry and has been so far successful. He was nominated in the 2022 AMVCA for the best online social content creator but didn’t win. He’s nominated this year for best lead actor for his role in “ Lisabi: The Uprising “. It would be his first AMVCA if he wins.
Uzor Arukwe
The Nigerian actor from imo state Nigeria, started his acting career in 2014 and he’s one the few actors who have been nominated twice in the same category the same year and two different movies. He got nominated in the 2020 AMVCA for Best Actor in a comedy or movie for “smash” and “size 12”. He’s been nominated this year for his role in “Suspicion”. He’s yet to win any AMVCA award so it would be his first if he wins.
Mike Afolarin
If you’ve seen the popular Nigerian series “Far from Home” then you’d be able to tell of Mike’s amazing acting skills. Starting his acting career with a stage play during his time at the University of Lagos. Mike has evolved beyond stage dramas to lead roles in movies. He’s nominated for his role in “House of Gaa” for the 2025 AMVCA. It’d mark his first AMVCA nomination and win if he does.
