PSG launch €120m plus two-player offer to hijack Julian Alvarez from Barcelona

Barcelona agree personal terms with Julian Alvarez but Atletico hold firm on €150m
Julian Alvarez prefers Barcelona but PSG offer Dembélé level wages in €120m deal

Julián Álvarez has told Atlético Madrid he wants to leave this summer. Barcelona are his clear priority. But PSG have now submitted a staggering €120 million plus two players offer that threatens to blow the race wide open.

The Argentine striker, who has scored 20 goals in 49 appearances this season, has informed Atleti he is ready for an “important step” in his career. Barcelona is his preferred destination.

Yet the Catalan club faces a financial crisis. PSG have made a formal move, offering €120 million plus Kang-in Lee and Gonçalo Ramos ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final. They have also presented Álvarez with a €22 million net annual salary, matching what Ousmane Dembélé earns.

Barcelona’s determination

Sources confirm Barcelona have already agreed personal terms with the 26-year-old. Sporting director Deco held a direct meeting with the forward’s agent. The club believes Álvarez’s desire to join Hansi Flick’s project will be decisive.

ESPN reports Barcelona are “hopeful” they can win the race after being informed Álvarez would prefer them over Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal. The club has also confirmed the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle in a deal that could top €80 million.

The club’s budget for a striker is capped at €100 million. Atletico’s asking price stands at €150 million. Barça are preparing an opening offer of €90 million plus bonuses, hoping the player’s desire to leave will force Atlético to negotiate.

PSG’s financial muscle

Luis Enrique is personally leading PSG’s pursuit. The French champions can offer immediate Champions League contention and wages Barcelona cannot match.

The proposed deal includes two players Atlético’s sporting director Mateu Alemany genuinely rates. PSG’s plan to fund the move involves selling Kang-in Lee, Ramos and potentially Bradley Barcola, whose departure could bring in over $100 million.

Atletico have made their position clear. The club will not stand in Álvarez’s way if he wants to leave, but only if their valuation is met. His contract runs until 2030 with a €500 million release clause.

The race is far from over. It is only just beginning.
