Remo Stars coach attending CAF course, not sacked — club clarifies

CAF Champions League Exit Sparks Rumours, But Remo Stars Stand Firm
Ogunmodede Still in Charge, Remo Stars Refute Social Media Claims

Remo Stars have denied widespread rumours that head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has resigned. They confirm he remains in charge while attending a CAF coaching course in Abuja.

The Ikenne-based club issued a formal statement on November 5, 2025, dismissing the claims as “baseless.” They attribute his absence to professional training and national team duties.

Reports suggesting Ogunmodede’s resignation spread on social media. This followed Remo Stars’ 7-1 aggregate defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League and a slow NPFL start.

The team, Nigeria’s defending league champions, currently sit 17th with three wins from eight matches. The disappointing run fueled speculation of internal friction and managerial unrest.

However, the club moved swiftly to refute the claims. “Daniel is presently attending a CAF B coaching course in Abuja as part of his continuous professional development. This shows his commitment to personal and technical growth,” Remo Stars said.

Ogunmodede also serves as an assistant coach for the national team. It is a dual role that often requires his presence at federal assignments.

Despite recent setbacks, Remo Stars maintain their support for Ogunmodede. He guided them to their first-ever NPFL title last season and signed a contract extension through 2027.

Under his leadership

The 43-year-old’s career has been a steady climb within the club. He joined in 2015 as youth coach, rose to assistant manager. He later spent time in Portugal for advanced training before taking charge in 2022.

Under his leadership, Remo Stars have recorded finishes of third, second, and first in consecutive NPFL seasons. His rise has confirmed the club’s evolution into a modern football project.

This season’s struggles, however, have exposed thin squad depth and fatigue from competing on two fronts. Ogunmodede, speaking from Abuja, shared images from his course sessions.

As he prepares to return, the club hopes his presence will stabilize performances ahead of their next NPFL fixture. For now, their manager has not walked away, and their project continues.
