Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has lauded the safe rescue of the schoolchildren and teachers who were abducted by gunmen in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, describing the breakthrough as a major milestone in the country’s fight against domestic insecurity.
The governor’s commendation was contained in an official statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.
The rescue operation successfully freed the victims over 55 days after they were initially seized by armed assailants on May 15, 2026, in the Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

Expressing deep relief and satisfaction over the development, Sanwo-Olu stated that the successful mission serves as strong proof of President Bola Tinubu’s firm administrative resolve to tackle criminal networks and safeguard Nigerian citizens.
Sanwo-Olu praised the seamless synergy demonstrated by the country’s defence and intelligence apparatus, particularly highlighting the coordinated efforts of the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Air Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force.

He credited their structural collaboration and resilience for making the unconditional release of the captives possible.
Extending his solidarity to the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, and the broader community of Ogbomoso, the governor remarked that the positive outcome of the operation has provided a renewed sense of hope, security, and psychological relief to families not only within the Southwest geopolitical zone but across the entire country.
Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the victory underscores the vital necessity of ongoing cooperation between federal authorities, sub-national governments, and security agencies to permanently eradicate kidnapping and secure communities nationwide.
