Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged residents to honour the sacrifices of the nation’s fallen heroes by fostering a culture of compassion and shared responsibility.

Speaking at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Interdenominational Divine Service held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu emphasised the need for collective efforts to address the challenges faced by the families of deceased military officers.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the governor described the ceremony as more than a ritual but a solemn reminder of the selfless service and sacrifices made by the gallant officers.

He called on Lagosians to emulate their dedication, stating, “We owe it to our heroes to sustain their vision by extending a helping hand to those in need and creating opportunities for all.”

Sanwo-Olu reassured attendees of his administration’s commitment to supporting the families of fallen heroes, noting several initiatives, including free medical care in government hospitals and distribution of support packages to ease their burdens.

Highlighting his administration’s infrastructural achievements, the governor mentioned the recent commissioning of over 25 bridges and road networks, pledging to complete more projects to benefit Lagos residents.

He also called on individuals, non-governmental organizations, and public-spirited entities to collaborate with the government in uplifting the families of fallen heroes.

The service, themed “Remembering the Faithful Heroes,” featured a sermon delivered by Very Rev’d Oladapo Emmanuel Daramola, who drew inspiration from Nehemiah 13:14.

He underscored the importance of dedication and faithful stewardship, urging attendees to draw lessons from the sacrifices of the fallen heroes.

The event was attended by members of the Lagos State Executive Council, Permanent Secretaries, military and paramilitary officers, and heads of government agencies, reflecting the state’s collective commitment to honouring the legacy of its faithful heroes.
