Meta’s Threads is celebrating its second anniversary by adding party hat icons to users’ profile photos for 24 hours.
Meta’s social platform Threads has introduced a temporary visual feature to celebrate its second anniversary, adding a digital party hat to user profile pictures for 24 hours.
According to a company announcement on Saturday, the feature activates automatically for users who open the app on July 5, the original launch date of Threads in 2023. The party hat serves as a lightweight in-app celebration, visible on profiles and within comment sections.

Threads launched as a text-based companion to Instagram and has since grown to compete in the microblogging space alongside platforms like X and Bluesky. Over the past year, Meta has rolled out several updates to improve engagement, including keyword search, trending topics, and a web interface.
While the party hat feature is purely cosmetic, it reflects Meta’s ongoing effort to build community identity and foster user loyalty through platform rituals and shared milestones.
As of June 2025, Threads reported over 175 million monthly active users globally.
