President Bola Tinubu has applauded the Super Eagles for their emphatic 4–1 victory over Gabon, as he highlighted the team’s performance as a powerful reminder of Nigeria’s unity and collective pride.
In a statement released by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, the president stressed that football continues to serve as one of the country’s strongest national bonds.
The president, moreover, celebrated the entire squad, coaching staff, and backroom team for delivering a disciplined and determined display.
He urged them to maintain the same hunger as they head into the remaining World Cup qualifying fixtures, insisting that consistency will be key to sealing a ticket to the 2026 tournament.
Tinubu praised the players’ resilience by noting that their effort reflected the true Nigerian spirit, especially in moments that demand courage and character. He reminded the team that the nation stands firmly behind them as they push for qualification.

While extending his congratulations, the president also encouraged the Super Eagles to treat every game as a fresh test of discipline and ambition.
The Super Eagles triumphed over the Panthers after a 1-1 draw in regulation time before going on to score three in extra time.
Sevilla players Akor Adams and substitute Chidera Ejuke scored before Victor Osimhen grabbed a brace. Mario Lemina netted Gabon’s only goal.
He emphasised that Nigeria’s World Cup target is within reach, but he insisted that the team must approach all challenges with full determination.
Tinubu concluded his message with a rallying call. He urged the players to keep soaring until qualification is secured.
The Super Eagles will face DR Congo in the World Cup continental playoffs final on Sunday, 16 November at 8pm (GMT+1).
