Popular Nigerian singers Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay were seen hugging each other in public during the 2026 graduation ceremony of the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation held in Lagos.
The programme was organized by the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation in partnership with the Berklee College of Music. The event took place at the National Theatre Lagos, where students celebrated the completion of the “Berklee in Nigeria: Class of 2026” training.
The ceremony also included a free concert where about 120 young and upcoming musicians performed before guests and supporters. During the programme, 18 students were selected to receive full three-year undergraduate scholarships that will allow them to continue their studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Another Nigerian singer, Teni, also entertained the audience with a live performance during the event.
A video from the gathering later spread across social media, showing Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay greeting each other warmly and sharing a friendly hug. Many fans reacted to the moment because the two singers have had a troubled relationship for several years.

Their disagreement became widely known in 2021 after both artistes had a heated encounter at a salon in Lagos. The incident was recorded and shared online, where they were seen exchanging harsh words. Since then, many followers of the music industry have continued to watch their relationship closely.

In 2025, Seyi Shay spoke about their issues during an appearance on the OffAir Show. She explained that at the beginning, she did not fully understand what caused the distance between her and Tiwa Savage.
According to her, she later gained more understanding after reconnecting with a former staff member who revealed details about a past relationship with Tiwa Savage’s partner without Tiwa’s knowledge at the time.

Seyi Shay said this discovery helped her understand why Tiwa Savage may have believed she knew about the situation earlier. The misunderstanding added to the tension between them and led to the breakdown of their friendship.
