Nigerian singer Seyi Shay has shared why she did not marry the father of her daughter, revealing details about their relationship and co-parenting.
Seyi Shay, who welcomed her first child, a baby girl, in 2022, had previously kept her partner’s identity private despite announcing her engagement.
In a recent discussion on the WithChude podcast, the 39-year-old singer explained that her daughter’s father is Nigerian and works in the entertainment industry.
She clarified that their decision not to marry stems from a “technical issue” but added that they maintain a strong friendship and work together to raise their child.

Currently, he is in the UK, and their co-parenting arrangement is smooth, with both actively involved in their daughter’s life.
Seyi described him as someone very important to her and confirmed that despite not being married, their relationship is built on respect, friendship, and collaboration in parenting.
Their focus remains on providing a stable and loving environment for their daughter while managing their personal and professional lives separately.
She said, “Her dad is Nigerian, from Nigeria. And we’re really brilliant friends now, and we coparent really well.
“We’re not married. It’s a technical issue but because he’s not here, I don’t want to speak too much because I’ve not discussed with him about how he might feel.
“He’s someone that is very special to me and this is my daughter’s father. But he’s great, he’s cool, he’s around, he’s in the UK at the moment.
“He’s also in the music industry, on the corporate side of things. And we just work well together, raising our child. We’re great friends.”
