Popular activist Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore confirmed his release on Wednesday, sharing the news on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

“Thanks to unrelenting efforts of all, Verydarkman has been released from unjust detention at the EFCC. He is with his ebullient lawyer, Adeyanju Deji” Sowore wrote.

His lawyer, Adetanju Adedeji also confirmed the release on his social media page when he wrote:

“VDM released to us on bail. Special thanks to Deji Adeyanju and Partners especially the head of our firm Marvin Omorogbe. Thank you Nigerians for speaking up for him. Thank you Egbon Sowore. Thank you HE Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Davido, opposition lawmakers, etc. I must also thank the chairman of EFCC for indulging and listening to all my concerns since on Friday last week and his team. The struggle continues.”

NRTC recalls that the social media activist was arrested after several complaints about harassment and online intimidation.

His release has sparked reactions across social media, where his followers had demanded his freedom.

One social media user and others posted, “The Ratel King is BACK  STRONGER, BIGGER and even more influential. At this point there is nothing you can do to this man right here. The whole world is behind him. Welcome back KING. Moral lesson: A million likes and hearts for him FAM.”

Otse, known for his outspoken online presence and activism, has built a large following by speaking out on political and social issues in Nigeria.

His sudden arrest had drawn swift criticism from supporters and fellow activists, who called it an attack on freedom of expression.

As news of his release spreads, many await further details on the case.
