The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily disabled access to the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates due to technical complications discovered after the release of the results.
In a statement signed by Moyosola Adesina, the Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC explained that the disruption followed the introduction of a new security feature aimed at curbing exam malpractice.
“As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation (paper serialisation)… The paper serialisation was carried out in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics,” the Council stated.

The measure, which involved serialising examination papers to make malpractice more difficult, reportedly triggered unforeseen bugs in the system during a post-release review. This prompted the Council to take the result-checking portal offline as a precautionary step.
“The Council, being a responsive body that is sensitive to fairness and professionalism, has decided to urgently review and correct the technical glitches that led to the situation. As a result, access to the WASSCE (SC) 2025 results has been temporarily denied on the result checker portal,” the statement added.
WAEC has issued an apology to students and parents affected by the delay, assuring them that the problem is being resolved and advising them to check the portal again after 24 hours.
“We extend our deep and sincere apologies. We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter with transparency and urgency,” Adesina said.
