Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has shared the reason she chose to stay single during her early years in school, saying it was a conscious decision tied to her future plans.
The 23-year-old music star explained that she avoided relationships while growing up because she did not want any past connection to be used against her later in life.
She said she was already thinking ahead and did not want a situation where someone could come forward in the future claiming to have been part of her personal life before fame.

According to her, many boys showed interest in her at the time, but she remained careful and questioned their intentions. She said she often wondered why they were approaching her and believed some of them might not have had genuine reasons.

Ayra Starr also talked about what she now looks for in a relationship. She said intelligence matters more to her than physical appearance, making it clear that she values a partner who can match her mentally rather than just looks.
“I didn’t date in high school because I didn’t want to be anybody’s ex. I knew a lot of guys were trying, and I was like, why are you trying That means you must have an ulterior motive,” she said.
