Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has joined calls for justice after a video showing a police officer shooting a restrained suspect in Delta State spread online and caused public anger.
The video, which is less than two minutes long, showed a young man sitting on the ground with his hands tied behind his back.
He appeared to be under police control when the incident happened. In the footage, he was seen crying and pleading with officers, saying he would take them to a friend’s house in Sapele who he claimed was involved in setting him up.
While the suspect was still speaking and trying to explain himself, one of the officers, dressed in plain clothes, was seen handling a rifle.
Moments later, the officer fired a shot directly at the restrained man. The man fell to the ground immediately as people nearby watched in shock. After the shooting, the police officers carried his body into a Toyota Sienna vehicle marked as belonging to the Nigeria Police Force Effurun Area Command in Uvwie.

The video quickly spread on social media and led to heavy criticism of the police, with many users calling for accountability and justice over the incident.
Yvonne Jegede also reacted online, questioning the action of the officers and calling for proper investigation into the killing.
She wrote on her Instagram page:
“Nigeria what are we doing concerning these atrocities??? Nigerian Police Force @nigeriapoliceforce you are taking the lives of the same people who fought for the police reforms in 2020 (EndSars). This is highly unacceptable. Why wasn’t he allowed to take them to the said person who set him up? Why wasn’t he given a chance in court? Why did the devil in uniform take justice into his hands? Why didn’t anyone try to stop him? Why aren’t these overzealous uniformed thieves going after bandits? This is too much…”
In a statement, the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident. He identified the victim as 28-year-old Mene Ogidi and said he died after being shot by a police officer identified as Nuhu Usman.
