Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has opened up about how she ended up featuring in the iconic music video for 2Baba’s hit track ‘African Queen’.

In a recent interview on the Nollywood on Radio podcast, the 41-year-old actress shared that she had initially declined the offer to appear in the video. However, a friend of hers convinced her to take part.

“I didn’t want to be part of the music video, and I told the person who contacted me that I wasn’t interested,” she said. “But my friend who was very persistent said, ‘Come on, let’s just go. You’re not doing anything at home.’ So I gave in and followed her.”

Jegede recalled that the shoot lasted for three days, during which she played the role of one of the African queens. She described the experience as memorable, although she hadn’t expected the song or video to become a major success.

“It was a fun experience, but I didn’t think the song would blow up like that,” she added. “Even after the video came out, I didn’t think much of it until people started recognising me from it.”

Jegede’s appearance in the video has since become one of the standout visuals of early 2000s Nigerian music, marking a nostalgic moment for many fans.
