Why Victor Osimhen is the perfect No. 9 Manchester United needs, not Delap

United make Osimhen move after Delap's rejection

Manchester United’s attack lacks firepower. They’ve bagged just 33 goals in 27 league games this season, ranking 15th. The frontline needs a clinical No. 9—Victor Osimhen fits that bill.

He brings pace, power, and aerial dominance, just what United’s crosses are crying out for. At Napoli, he scored 26 goals in a single Serie A season, grabbed the Golden Boot, and fired them to a long-awaited Scudetto.

He presses hard, holds up play well, and gives creators like Bruno Fernandes room to operate. He’s the kind of striker defenders hate chasing.

Liam Delap, on the other hand, isn’t quite ready for the big stage. He’s bagged 12 goals in 40 games for Ipswich Town and managed 8 in 32 for Hull City the season before—decent in the Championship, but nowhere near Osimhen’s level.

Delap’s frame matches Osimhen’s, but the strength, experience, and killer instinct just aren’t there.

The Nigerian international has delivered on big nights and scored often against top-tier sides—14 goals came against Serie A’s best. He’s also more efficient: nearly five shots per game versus Delap’s under two.

Osimhen’s movement stretches defenses and forces defenders to track back, opening midfield space. United’s box has looked empty this season, with strikers managing fewer than 100 touches inside it.

Victor changes that. He’s a magnet in the box, always sniffing for a goal. Delap can’t offer that—not yet. United needs a striker who scores now, not one who might bloom later.

Osimhen gives them an instant edge, ready to hit the ground running. Delap’s still learning the ropes. The choice is clear—United should go for goals and go for Osimhen.
