Liverpool’s summer-long search for attacking reinforcements has hit another hurdle after Brighton rejected an improved £60 million bid for winger Yankuba Minteh.
The Reds have now had two offers turned down for the 22-year-old, having previously seen a £50m proposal rejected earlier this week.
Despite the rejection, talks between the clubs are continuing. Andoni Iraola, Liverpool’s new head coach, has made strengthening his wide attacking options a priority after Mohamed Salah’s departure this summer.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool and Minteh have a “broad verbal agreement” on contract terms, with the player having already said yes to the Anfield project. However, the two clubs are still some way apart on the fee.

Brighton are understood to be holding out for a fee closer to £70 million for the Gambia international. The Seagulls signed Minteh from Newcastle for £30m in 2024, and he has since scored 10 goals and provided nine assists in 73 appearances for the club.
Liverpool have also been pursuing Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, but PSG’s £145m valuation has been an obstacle. With the transfer window closing in just over a week, Liverpool may need to decide whether to return with a third bid or move on to other targets.
Minteh is currently sidelined with a leg injury sustained in a pre-season friendly and is not expected to return until October.
