Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has moved a step closer to the 2027 presidency after his party’s, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) screening committee cleared him.

The exercise, held in the nation’s capital, lasted more than two and a half hours as officials carried out a detailed review of Obi’s academic and professional records.

Former Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu chaired the screening committee.

In a statement on Wednesday, Obi said the panel thoroughly examined his personal records to ensure full compliance with electoral requirements.

The committee reviewed his University degree certificates, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) credentials and Official age declarations.

Beyond the documentation, Obi engaged the committee in an extensive discussion about his plans for the country.

He revealed that members questioned him at length about his vision for a “New Nigeria” and the leadership approach needed to address the nation’s current socio-economic challenges.

After the screening, the committee cleared the former Labour Party presidential candidate, who recently aligned with the NDC.

He subsequently received his official presidential nomination form, which he had earlier purchased ahead of the race.

Obi praised both the party leadership and the screening panel for the conduct of the exercise.

“I would like to commend the screening committee, led by former governor Sam Egwu, for their thorough and professional approach,” Obi stated.

“I appreciate our party’s leadership for upholding the democratic process.

”The clearance marked a significant milestone for Obi, who has continued to project optimism about Nigeria’s future.
