Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda has opened up about the inspiration behind his popular hit Cash App, saying the track was intentionally created for internet fraudsters, popularly referred to as Yahoo boys.

In a recent interview with Clout Africa, the music star explained that he chose to make a song that reflects the struggles of those involved in cyber fraud after observing how demanding the lifestyle can be.

When the host asked, “What inspired Cash App? Were you doing Yahoo?” Shmurda clarified his intention.

He responded, “It is Yahoo in the sense that they [Yahoo boys] have to dance. These people that are hustling, you have to make them happy. Because internet fraud is stressful. It has a lot of challenges.

“The truth is, when it comes to inspiration, you don’t have any story behind it. It is natural, it just comes. It is God-given. So, Cash App is divine.”

Released in 2020 and featuring Zlatan and Lincoln, Cash App quickly gained massive traction in Nigeria and across Africa, cementing its place as one of Bella Shmurda’s breakout hits.
