Tottenham have pulled off a stunning coup by securing Andy Robertson on a free transfer from Liverpool. The experienced left-back arrives with pedigree and a winning mentality.
The Scotland captain had already confirmed his Liverpool exit ahead of contract expiration this summer. As a result, Spurs moved swiftly to seal a deal that reshapes their defensive structure.
Interestingly, this move nearly happened in January under Thomas Frank’s management. However, Liverpool halted negotiations after failing to recall Kostas Tsimikas from Roma.
Now under Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham have revived and completed the long-anticipated transfer. The deal officially takes effect on July 1, marking a fresh chapter for both parties.
Spurs narrowly secured Premier League survival on the final day after beating Everton. That result set the stage for an ambitious rebuild led by De Zerbi.
“Andy is someone I’ve admired for a number of years and he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team,” said De Zerbi.
“He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period and is someone who can be a big player for us.”
Robertson’s arrival brings elite-level experience following a glittering spell at Liverpool. Since joining from Hull City in 2017, he has become one of Europe’s most consistent full-backs.

Tottenham’s hierarchy also praised his influence both on and off the pitch. His professionalism is expected to elevate the squad’s overall mentality.
“His quality, character and leadership have been evident throughout a career,” said Johan Lange.
“Andy’s professionalism and commitment will also be invaluable to the development of our squad.”
Ultimately, Robertson’s move represents more than just a signing. It signals Tottenham’s renewed ambition to compete at the highest level again.
