Osun govt adjusts civil service working hours for Ramadan, Lent

In a move aimed at enhancing worker welfare during the dual fasting seasons, Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved a temporary reduction in working hours for public servants across Osun State.

The directive, which takes effect Thursday, is designed to provide spiritual and physical support to the state’s workforce as they observe the holy months of Ramadan and Lent.

According to a circular issued by the Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, the revised closing times for the duration of the fasting period were set as follows: public servants would close work at 2:00 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays, while on Fridays, offices would close earlier at 1:00 p.m.

Adeleke emphasised that this adjustment serves a dual purpose: supporting the well-being of the workforce and allowing civil servants ample time for prayer.

The governor noted that the state is particularly encouraging prayers for continued “peace and tranquillity,” especially as Osun State prepares for its gubernatorial election later this year.

While the policy applies broadly to the state’s bureaucracy, the governor has maintained a strict exemption for essential services.

Due to the critical nature of their work, medical personnel and other emergency responders will continue to maintain their standard shifts to ensure public safety and healthcare delivery remain uninterrupted.

“This gesture of the Governor is to enable Public Servants to have sufficient time to pray for the existing peace and tranquillity in the State to continue unhindered.”

All heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as local government authorities, have been directed to ensure immediate compliance and wide dissemination of the new schedule among their staff.
