Currently, Google collaborated with the Linux Foundation to create a new project called āSupporters of Chromium-Based Browsers.ā At the moment, most of the funds that sustain Chromium, the open-source Web browser project from which the code base for Chrome emerged, originate from Google. The company explains that it has no plans to cut its share in the future, but it also maintains that it encourages others to increase their share.
Instead, the newly formed effort under the Linux Foundation will help fund Chromiumās open-source development and ensure adequate care for potentially groundbreaking submissions. It is also intended to offer a āneutral groundā for developers, members of the academe, and giant stakeholders. Apart from Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Opera, Opera has also given its support for the move.

Google said the new program was created in response to feedback from āmany companies and developers about how important the Chromium project is to them, and how they might contribute in ways beyond just engineering over time.ā Chrome is only one of the browsers developed on the project called Chromium so the participation of Edge and Opera does not come as a big shock.
As it is known, last year the Department of Justice demanded breaking up Google and selling the Chrome web browser. When Google made the announcement of selling Chrome, the firm noted that it would still fund Chromium, only time will show the impacts.
