Adeleke urges vigilance at Osun borders amid banditry concerns

Ademola-Adeleke

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on traditional rulers, particularly those in border communities, to increase vigilance and immediately report any suspicious movements or infiltration by alleged bandits from neighbouring states to security agencies.

The governor emphasised the need for sustained peace in Osun, which he described as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, stressing that efforts must be made to prevent bandits from gaining a foothold in the state.

“We should watch our borders. Bandits should not be allowed to infiltrate Osun state,” Adeleke stated.

He tasked traditional councils across the state to report “strange settlers” who may have recently entered their territories, noting that this is not the time to permit “mass internal migration” given the ongoing banditry crisis in Osun’s border states.

Adeleke expressed satisfaction with the security council’s “effective plan of action” to prevent the bandits from establishing themselves in Osun, commending his security team and the various service commanders.

He specifically praised the Agbooro Community in Ikirun and the Akinrun-in-Council for their prompt collaboration with security agencies, which led to a group of Bororo settlers peacefully vacating parts of their community.

The governor urged other border towns to “emulate this step and adopt open surveillance in partnership with the security agencies.”

In addition to border security, Adeleke strongly condemned the reported attack on the Corps Commander of the Amotekun Security Service, Isaac Omoyele.

He described the alleged assassination attempt as “unacceptable and a threat to the peace and security of the state.

“The governor called on police authorities to conduct a “thorough investigation” into the incident and to ensure the immediate apprehension of the suspects.
