Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to strengthening Ondo State’s tertiary institutions, promising a strategic increase in support for education and host community infrastructure.

The governor made this commitment yesterday during a high-level consultative meeting at the Governor’s Office in Akure with the Alale of Akungba, Oba Isiaka Oseni Adu, and prominent community leaders from Akoko South West.

Addressing the financial demands of state-owned universities and polytechnics, Aiyedatiwa acknowledged receiving various requests for increased running grants.

While noting the reality of limited state resources, he emphasised that critical educational needs would remain at the forefront of his agenda.

“Everybody is asking for more,” the governor remarked, explaining the delicate balance required to meet the demands of ministries, workers, and various communities.

He assured the delegation that the government is actively working to block financial leakages and bolster revenue generation to ensure more funds are available for the state’s signature education sector.

A major highlight of the visit was the governor’s update on the multi-billion-naira Akungba–Ikare road dualization.

Aiyedatiwa described the project as a “vital lifeline” essential for enhancing economic growth in the Northern Senatorial District, improving road safety for students and residents of the university community and boosting overall regional connectivity.

Furthermore, the governor promised to expedite the relocation and rehabilitation of the Atiba Market, with plans to transform it into a modern central hub for commerce.

On the issue of safety, the governor noted that robust measures have been deployed to maintain peace in Akungba.

The governor reiterated the state’s reputation for academic excellence would be protected through proactive investment and community-centered governance.

This response followed an appeal from Oba Oseni Adu, who praised the governor’s recent interventions, including the Okusa Basic Health Centre and the provision of modern vehicles to traditional rulers.

The monarch also used the medium to advocate for inclusion of qualified Akungba indigenes in the state civil service and enhanced funding for Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA) to support the rollout of new professional courses.
