Kwara govt begins construction on 13 public schools

The Kwara State Government has kicked off the construction and renovation of 13 public schools across the Kwara South Senatorial District.

The projects represent the first phase of an ambitious statewide initiative spearheaded by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

This initial batch is part of a broader plan recently approved for 39 schools across the state, aimed at reversing years of systemic neglect and providing modern facilities for the next generation of learners.

The ongoing works are not merely cosmetic; they involve a comprehensive overhaul of school facilities.

According to the government, the projects are funded through approved allocations and include large-scale refurbishment of dilapidated classroom blocks and construction of new classrooms to replace structures that have become unsafe.

Others are development of modern science laboratories to bolster STEM education and new examination halls to facilitate standardized testing and academic integrity.

For many of the beneficiary schools, this intervention marks the end of decades of decay.

By transforming these sites into functional learning centers, the administration aims to tackle the issue of overcrowding and significantly improve student outcomes.

The strategic plan covers all 16 local government areas, ensuring that the renewal of the education sector reaches both urban and rural communities.

The 13 schools currently undergoing transformation in Kwara South include Senior Secondary Comprehensive College, Isanlu-Isin in Isin, which is having a laboratory constructed.

Surajudeen College, Erin-Ile in Oyun is undergoing classroom renovations, while Government Secondary School, Ipe, also in Oyun, is having a two-room laboratory constructed.

In Offa, Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School is undergoing classroom renovations, and Moremi High School is having both its classrooms and offices renovated.

In Oke-Ero, Iloffa Grammar School is having a two-room laboratory constructed.In Ifelodun, Government Secondary School, Idofian is having a two-room laboratory constructed, while Idofian Grammar School is having its school hall renovated.

In Ekiti, Community Comprehensive High School, Obo-Ile is having classrooms and offices renovated, Community Secondary School, Etan is undergoing classroom renovations, and Iketa Grammar School, Osi is having its examination hall renovated.

In Irepodun, Community Senior Secondary School, Ikerin is having its classroom blocks renovated, while Muslim High School, Oro is undergoing renovations of classrooms and offices.

Speaking on the development, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on New Media, Akeweje Fafoluyi, emphasised that this exercise is a cornerstone of AbdulRazaq’s “Education Renewal Agenda.

“The administration maintains that providing a conducive learning environment is a non-negotiable step toward improving the quality of education and ensuring that Kwara State remains competitive in the national academic landscape.
