Ancelotti sets strict rules for Neymar in Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed Neymar’s inclusion in the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad but warned the veteran forward will face strict conditions, including no guaranteed starting role or captaincy.

‎Speaking at the official squad unveiling in Rio de Janeiro, Ancelotti explained that Neymar must adhere to a new code of conduct, reducing his social media activity and focusing on discipline within the camp.

‎The coach emphasized that Neymar’s experience is valuable, but his role must be earned on the pitch. Brazil, chasing a record‑extending sixth World Cup title, will begin its campaign against Morocco on June 13, before facing Haiti and Scotland in Group C.

According to Ancelotti, “He has exactly the same obligations as all the other 25 players: he has the chance to play, to not play, to stay on the bench, to come on… he has the same responsibility as the others.”

The 34‑year‑old forward last featured for Brazil in October 2023, when he suffered a serious knee injury against Uruguay. His recall comes after a return to boyhood club Santos in January 2026, where he regained fitness ahead of the tournament.

Ancelloti further advised that Neymar’s role will be determined by performance, not reputation, as Brazil aims to build a resilient squad for the tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the USA.
