Arsenal have reached an agreement in principle with Newcastle United to sign Bruno Guimarães for a fee of €90 million (£77 million), with the Brazilian midfielder scheduled to undergo a medical on Saturday.
The 28-year-old has agreed a five-year contract with the Gunners until 2031. Arsenal had previously seen offers of around €70 million and €80 million rejected before raising their proposal to €90 million plus bonuses.
The Brazil international has made clear his desire to leave St James’ Park after four-and-a-half years at the club. The Newcastle captain informed the club he wants to depart, and a move is now set to happen.
Guimarães had already agreed personal terms with Arsenal several weeks ago. His decision to leave is not connected to Eddie Howe’s departure as Newcastle head coach.
Discussions between the clubs are now focused on bonuses and agent commissions before the transfer can be made official. The fee is structured as a base payment of €90 million, with additional performance-related bonuses.

The Brazilian midfielder has been given an extended break after representing Brazil at the 2026 World Cup but is due to return to training shortly. He will not travel with the Newcastle squad to Spain for their pre-season camp as the transfer nears completion.
Guimarães brings elite-level experience, leadership and technical quality to Mikel Arteta’s midfield. His arrival is expected to provide additional depth and quality as Arsenal prepare to defend their league title and compete in the Champions League.
Guimarães will become one of Arsenal’s most expensive signings in club history. The deal is expected to be officially confirmed once the medical is completed on Saturday.
