Arsenal complete £67.5m hijack as Eberechi Eze becomes new No.10

England midfielder Eberechi Eze has joined Arsenal from Crystal Palace.

Arsenal have officially announced the signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace in a lucrative £67.5m transfer.

The Gunners hijacked what seemed to be Tottenham Hotspur’s deal and will pay £60m upfront, with an additional £7.5m in performance-related add-ons, taking their summer transfer expenditure to £267m.

The 27-year-old forward, regarded as one of the most creative players in the Premier League, has signed a four-year deal with an option of a further year.

Eze will inherit the club’s iconic No.10 shirt, previously worn by legends such as Dennis Bergkamp and Mesut Özil.

How Arsenal beat Spurs to their long-term target

Tottenham believed they had reached an agreement with both Palace and Eze earlier in the week.

However, Arsenal reignited their interest following an injury setback to Kai Havertz and moved swiftly to secure the deal. While Havertz’s absence accelerated the process, Arsenal maintain Eze was always high on their list of targets from the opening weeks of the transfer window.

Spurs had even explored offering Richarlison in a part-exchange deal. They hoped to create space in their squad for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa. But Arsenal’s decisive approach, coupled with Eze’s preference for the Emirates, left their rivals stunned.

For the Gunners, this was more than just a transfer battle – it was about bringing home a player who once featured in their youth ranks and grew up supporting the club.

A Statement signing for Arsenal’s ambitions

Eze’s versatility is one of his greatest assets, as he can play across the attacking line. Whether on the left, through the middle, or on the right, Eze is a threat. This flexibility offers Mikel Arteta additional depth and creativity, especially as Arsenal continue their push to compete domestically and in Europe.

For the player himself, the move is equally symbolic. Returning to the club he supported as a child and stepping into the historic No.10 shirt represents the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Meanwhile, for Arsenal, the signing is another clear statement of intent.

With this hijack, Arsenal have not only strengthened their squad but also landed a psychological blow on their fiercest rivals, ensuring the North London rivalry burns brighter than ever.
