Politics: INEC records 69,376 pre-registrations in 7 hours
NRTC Weekly gathered that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reported that 69,376 Nigerians completed online voter pre-registration within the first seven hours of reopening the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, confirmed the figures in a statement issued in Abuja.
He noted that the portal went live at 8:30 a.m., and by 3:30 p.m., registrations had surpassed 69,000 nationwide.
According to INEC’s breakdown, male registrants accounted for 33,803 or 48.7 percent, while female registrants stood at 35,573 or 51.3 percent. Young persons aged 18 to 34 represented 69.2 percent of the total, amounting to 48,033 individuals.
Leading Stories: Tinubu cuts dialysis session cost nationwide
NRTC Weekly reported that President Bola Tinubu has approved a subsidy reducing dialysis costs from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000 per session in federal hospitals across Nigeria.
The announcement was made by Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Information, through a statement on his official X handle.
He explained that the intervention is already being implemented in major federal hospitals across the six geopolitical zones.
Hospitals currently offering the subsidised dialysis include the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Ebute-Metta in Lagos, FMC Jabi in Abuja, University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, and FMC Owerri.
Others are the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, FMC Abeokuta, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), FMC Azare, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), and University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).
Business: NNPCL posts N185bn profit
NRTC Weekly reported that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) reported a profit after tax of N185 billion in July 2025, despite rising debt concerns.
In its monthly performance report, the company disclosed a N7.9 trillion remittance to the Federation Account in the first half of the year. Oil production averaged 1.70 million barrels per day (mbpd) in July, up from 1.68mbpd in June.
The report detailed that condensate accounted for 0.29mbpd, while crude oil output was 1.40mbpd. Natural gas production reached 7.72 billion standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd), with sales climbing to 4.98bscfd, the year’s peak.
On projects, NNPCL said the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline was 83 percent complete, with new subcontractors deployed to speed up work. It confirmed 100 percent upstream pipeline availability, minimizing disruptions.
The report added that 113km of the OB3 pipeline had been commissioned, injecting about 300mmscfd of gas into the system. Supplies included 250mmscfd from AHL and 50mmscfd combined from Platform, Chorus, and Xenergi.

NRTC Weekly learnt that The 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season begins on Friday, August 22, 2025, marking the competition’s 54th edition and 36th since being professionalised.
The curtain-raiser paired defending champions Remo Stars with 2022 winners Rivers United. The fixture, holding at MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, replaced Ikenne Stadium due to ongoing renovations.
Remo Stars secured their first league crown last season with 71 points. Their squad has since been strengthened by the arrivals of Malian midfielder Chaka Coulibaly and striker Adama Goita.
The NPFL board confirmed 20 participating teams, including 16 from last season and four promoted sides: Warri Wolves, Wikki Tourists, Barau FC, and Kun Khalifat.
Entertainment: Chioma Adeleke returns to social media after three years
NRTC Weekly gathered that Singer Davido’s wife, Chioma Adeleke, has returned to social media nearly three years after the loss of her first child, Ifeanyi.
Recall that the 3-year old died in 2022 following a drowning accident at the family’s home in Banana Island, Lagos.
On Thursday, August 21, 2025, Chioma posted on Instagram for the first time since the tragedy, sharing photos from her wedding with the music star in Miami.
Alongside the images, she paid an emotional tribute to her late son, noting that he will always remain in her heart despite the joy of new beginnings and the arrival of her twin babies.
