Former Big Brother Naija winner Phyna has shared her thoughts on the present state of the reality show, saying it no longer offers the same value it once did to contestants after they leave the house.

She spoke during a recent livestream on Twitch where she explained that many ex-housemates now rely on one fixed group of supporters.

According to her, this fanbase is not growing, making it difficult for former contestants to build long-term careers from the platform.

Phyna said the same viewers only move their support from one housemate to another each season, without bringing in fresh followers.

As a result, new contestants struggle to gain wider attention beyond the existing audience of the show.

She also stated that the image of the programme has declined over the years.

In her view, being a former Big Brother Naija housemate no longer commands the same respect it once did, unlike in earlier seasons when contestants were more valued in the entertainment industry.

The reality TV star added that the appeal and confidence housemates usually had while on the show no longer last after the competition ends, mainly because the audience base remains unchanged.

She said, “The steeze housemates do have on the show they don’t have it again, because it’s the same fan base that moves from one to another, no new people, nothing new. It’s just the same people.

“And that aside, the show has lost credibility compared to the way it was before, because when you tell someone now that I came out of BBNaija, they won’t rate you like they do then.”

Phyna, whose real name is Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, won the seventh edition of Big Brother Naija titled Level Up on October 2, 2022.

She emerged winner ahead of fellow finalist Bryann and received the grand prize of N100 million.

She remains one of the few female winners of the show, becoming the second woman to win after Mercy Eke, who claimed victory in 2019.
