Nigeria loses $15 billion yearly to limited Broadband access, according to NCC director Yinka Isioye, who urged swift investment in nationwide connectivity.

Nigeria’s broadband access gap is costing the nation an estimated $15 billion annually, according to Yinka Isioye, Director of the Digital Economy Department at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Speaking at the Broadband Technical Awareness Forum for Governors held in Yola, Adamawa State, Isioye emphasized that over 200 access gaps persist across the country, affecting nearly 27 million Nigerians.

Consequently, these gaps undermine economic productivity, deepen digital exclusion, and limit growth in underserved areas. He called on state governments to streamline Right of Way (RoW) charges and support the deployment of telecom infrastructure.

Furthermore, the forum highlighted the urgent need for collaboration between federal and state actors to bridge the digital divide.

With improved broadband penetration, Nigeria can unlock significant economic opportunities, expand digital literacy, and improve public services.

Meanwhile, the NCC reiterated its commitment to the National Broadband Plan 2020–2025, targeting 70% broadband penetration and at least 90% population coverage.
