Bruno Fernandes has been crowned the 2025/26 Premier League Player of the Season. The Manchester United captain secured the award after a campaign of creative genius, registering 8 goals and a league-leading 20 assists in 35 appearances.
The Premier League trophy completes an unprecedented individual collection for the 31-year-old Portuguese. Fernandes has now won every major domestic award available to him this season.
He was named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year earlier this month. He secured Manchester United’s Players’ Player of the Year award. He collected a record fifth Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year trophy. He also earned The Athletic’s Player of the Year honor.
No other player in Premier League history has won all five of these awards in a single season.
The numbers behind the genius
Fernandes created 120 chances across the campaign, nearly double the total of the second-ranked player. His 20 assists place him just one shy of the all-time single-season record jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
He scored 8 goals, all from open play. He missed only one league match all season. His average match rating of 8.14 was the highest in the division.
Fernandes also led United to a third-place finish and Champions League qualification. The club had been seventh when Michael Carrick took over in January. Fernandes was instrumental in the revival, recording 12 of his 20 assists under Carrick’s management.
A season of firsts
Fernandes becomes the first Manchester United player to win the Premier League Player of the Season award since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2007/08. He is also the first Portuguese player to win the award.
The midfielder has now won the Sir Matt Busby award a record five times, surpassing David de Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo. He has now claimed the FWA award, joining an exclusive list of United winners that includes Wayne Rooney (2010), Cristiano Ronaldo (2008) and Eric Cantona (1996).

His 20 assists are the highest single-season total by a United player since the Premier League began recording the statistic in 2006/07.
Fernandes will captain United in their final home game of the season against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. He needs one more assist to break the Premier League’s single-season record. The Portuguese has one match left to stand alone in the history books.
For now, the awards cabinet is full. Bruno Fernandes has conquered English football. The individual honors are done. Only the record remains.
